Kaeprnick Protest

Some things that have been talked about in the reading was that he was standing up for what he thought was right. But before I actually talk about what the reading was about I’m gonna explain a little bit of what was happening. So Kaeprnick was a black african american man who was raised by a white family. He was judged by his skin color even though he was raised by white parents. They judged him for being a great quarterback but the thing was that his skin color didn’t help him because even though he was a great quarterback some people still didn’t like him. He then started to get curious and wanted to know more of his traditions and the way they treat and talk to colored people because he never really knew anything about his traditions. He then started to see and realize that African Americans weren’t treated right and that they abused and were killing African Americans. 

He decided to protest by not standing for the USA flag. People said that he was disrespecting the flag and everyone in the military that once gave their lives for this country and flag. Which I think is kinda dumb because he wasn’t really doing anything bad to the flag like stepping on it or burning it or spitting on it. It’s not that he wasn’t grateful for the great life he had but he just didn’t agree on how other people (white people) were treating African Americans. And when something bad happened to African Americans they wouldn’t care they wouldn’t even do an investigation or anything like if they were useless or non important.

And that is what he was standing up for and people didn’t agree with what he was standing up for. Some people thought that he was a hero to take a stand and help and protect his people and risking his career knowing that he could and did get fired. He ruined his whole career just to do something that nobody else had the balls to do. Something that we talked about while we were discussing is that we wondered what would have happened if he was white. Would everything be completely different? What if he never wanted to know his traditions would he have still stood up for his people?
