Selma's Speech

 "Obama's Speech About Selma"

So we recently just read about the speech that Obama gave in 2015. During his speech he was saying how over 600 non violent marchers were attacked by Alabama state troopers as they attempted to march from Selma to Montgomery for voting rights. He wanted everyone that was listening to him to remember the difficult path that African Americans had to go through to just be able to vote. African Americans might have been treated a little better but they still weren’t getting the same rights because the white’s thought that they were superior than the colored. In which they thought that being smarter was one of them. But not all of the whites supported this law that whites should have more rights than colored people. A lot of colored people like John Lewis, Jose Lowery, Hosea Williams, and many more wanted a FAIR America. 

In Obama’s speech the way that he wants Americans to change is by working together. This mission or goal that he wants to do doesn’t just depend on one person but in the whole country. He wants America to come together and make it better than what it already is. “We can make sure every person willing to work has the dignity of a job, and a fair wage, and a real voice, and sturdier rungs on that ladder into the middle class.” These were his words to make everyone that was hearing to see that he doesn’t just want to make colored people have more or better rights than everyone he just wants everyone to be equal and he wanted to stretch out that the sacrifice and march and hard work that all of the people that did in the march was worth it. Honestly I just feel that he was just trying to say and clear up what Martin Luther King Jr wanted to get through to people. 

Which was that America is what we make it . If we want it to be free and fair then that's what it's gonna be but if we treat ourselves disrespectful and unfair then America isn’t going to be as great and free as how we want America to be. Like I said and I know I’m going to repeat myself but Barack Obama really just used different resources and statements that other people have used to stand out. He just added a few extra words to turn it into his. 

“We honor those who walked so we could run. We must run so our children soar. And we will not grow weary. For we believe in the power of an awesome God, and we believe in this country’s sacred promise.” These words in my opinion though are very strong because what he says in this statement is very true.
