Ale's - MLK Reflection

Martin Luther King Jr has had a big impact in the whole world. Thanks to him we all have equal rights and have freedom of speech. Thanks to his bravery he gave out that speech in Washington DC and what he was trying to let everyone know was that everyone deserves the same treatment. It doesn’t matter your skin color or ethnicity. What he was trying to say was that it should have never mattered in the first place. He was trying to tell everyone that America, which was a “free” country, really wasn’t a “free” country. He wanted to open everyone's eyes and make them see that not everything was rainbows and unicorns in America. The whites were treating the colored people way worse and were misjudging them for how they looked and dressed. He used repetition as well saying “100 years later” and then telling everyone that even though so much time has passed the colors were still not respected in any way. They were not free, they were still getting discriminated against.

If Martin Luther King Jr could see how much impact he had, I feel that he would be so glad to see that everyone (black and white) all live in harmony. During his speech he mentioned Abraham Lincoln for giving the law of Emancipation of Declaration. Which freed all of the African Americans and made them believe that they are free to do as their will. (Which they are) America was said that it was the place for opportunity and to make our dreams come true but when he was reading his speech it made it sound that America wasn’t free like how they said it was. It didn’t sound like the country to come if you were a colored person. Each word that came out of Martin Luther King Jr's mouth had a meaning. It wasn’t just words he wasn’t just up there blabbering words just cause. I can tell that he put a lot of thought into what he was going to say. I feel that he kinda struggled since when saying a speech you need to be able to have the audience still paying attention to you. And that’s exactly what he did. If you pay close attention to the video you can see how the audience was agreeing and cheering for every sentence that he said. Like if he was reading all of the colored people's minds.

And honestly I think that that's what we need nowadays. We need people who are able to speak the truth. Not just what we as the audience want to hear but also the facts that we need to improve in. I feel that if Martin Luther King Jr was here today his speech and words would be so effective. And even for him to know that there is a whole day just for him then he would most definitely be proud of what he has done and achieved. But this is my opinion of the speech of MLK. People might have different opinions than me but I feel that what I said a lot of people would agree with me.

  1. If MLK were here today, I also wonder what the impact on that speech and what else he would be doing would help move our country forward in a positive way.
